Two oil tankers were possibly attacked off the Gulf of Oman early today.
The US Navy’s Bahrain-based Firth Fleet told Reuters it was assisting two tankers in the Gulf after receiving two distress calls.

It is unclear as of yet if the two tankers hit a mine or if they were the target of a possible Iranian attack.
A month ago four commercial ships were hit in the same waterway, heightening tensions in the region.

One of the tankers flew a Panama flag, while the other flew a Marshall Islands flag.
According to reports so far, nobody has been killed and only one person has been injured.

Iran claims it rescued 44 crew members from the two tankers, and deny allegations that they might have been responsible for a possible attack.
It is unknown if this will further degrade the US – Iran relations
