Geert-Jan Knoops who is the lawyer of the anti-Islamic right-wing politician Geert Wilders, said that the ex-minister of Justice put pressure on the judges to convict Geert Wilders of a crime, that he seemingly didn’t commit.
According to the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, they received information from an anonymous source working in the Dutch justice system, who has stated that there was indeed political pressure placed on the judges to punish Geert Wilders.

According to the lawyer of Geert Wilders, the anonymous source has stated to them that he would be open to reveal his identity in the courts.
He wants to remain anonymous for now as he is fearful that the Dutch justice department might do something to him.

Current minister Opstelten denied the allegations.
It is unknown for now where this might lead to.
The Dutch government has been facing serious scandals back to back.

On the 22nd of May 2019, state secretary Mark Harbers stepped down from his position after it was revealed, that those who he was responsible for, covered up rapes and other serious crimes commited by refugees.
He said it was an “accident” and that he would take “full responsibility” for what happened.

In 2015 both Ivo Opstelten and Fred Teeven stepped down from their position after it was revealed that they lied to the government and to the public about a deal they made with a criminal that rewarded the criminal 570.000 dollars, in exchange for names and information.
It was later revealed that it was actually 2.13 million euros.
